Abstract

There is currently a great number of people involved in some way with the harmful use of alcohol and other drugs, which poses a challenge to public health and for the professionals. This article aims to investigate the organization of the Psychosocial Care Centers Alcohol and Drugs - CAPS ad - in the state of RS, with regard to practices and / or psychological interventions. This is a bibliographical and descriptive and exploratory analysis with the following themes: historical deployment of CAPS and CAPS ad in RS; service network; guidelines and policies of work; indications of activities and interventions of psychologists; academic and professional training in psychology. Databases were searched as BVS-PSI and Google Scholar, in the period 2001 to 2010 and data from sites in the public domain. The results of this study allow us to show more clearly how psychologists have developed in part their activities in such services as recommended by Ministry of Health, but finding barriers both in achieving larger activities, when the difficulty in maintaining records of same. The results also point to the issue of difficulty with records of CAPS ad as a whole. So, the construction of this study highlights the potential of services and also loopholes that enable future studies with different theoretical and techniques approaches.
