Abstract

MELO, Sheila Caroline Hnediuk de  and  SCHERMANN, Lígia Braun. Prevalence and associated factors to baby care difficulty in adolescent mothers between 14 to 16 years old in Porto Alegre/RS. Aletheia [online]. 2012, n.38-39, pp. 67-80. ISSN 1413-0394.

Cross sectional analytical study to verify the prevalence and associated factors to baby care difficulty in adolescent mothers between 14 to 16 years old with babies less than 10 months Born in Porto Alegre/RS in 2009. Interviews were carried out for 430 adolescent mothers in their homes. Data were analyzed by the statistical package SPSS 18 for Windows through descriptive and analytical statistics. The prevalence of baby care difficulty was 43,7%. Male babies, in older ages, who show more cry and colic and presented more difficulties to feed and sleep were perceived by their mothers as more difficult to care. The early identification by health professionals of risk factors in the care of adolescent mothers to their babies can contribute to prevent difficulties in mother-infant interaction process and in child development.
