Resumen

FOGACA, Monalisa de Cássia et al. Burnout in psychology students: differences between beginners and graduating. Aletheia [online]. 2012, n.38-39, pp. 124-131. ISSN 1413-0394.

During their graduation, students are constantly exposed to various psychosocial stressors, which, when persistent, can lead to burnout syndrome (BS). Considering the importance of this demand, this study aimed to identify differences in the dimensions of SB on the year and round in psychology students. For this, a transversal study with 282 Psychology students of a private university in São Paulo, enrolled in day and night periods, from the first to the fifth year, was conducted. The Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Survey [MBI-SS] was applied and the data were measured through the Mann-Whitney Test. The results did not indicate any statistic differences related to the periods (day or night). However, when the year of the course was taken into consideration, it was verified that students from the fifth year - unlike the ones from the first to the fourth years - showed significant statistic differences (p ≤ 0,02), related to: emotional exhaustion and professional disbelief and inefficacy. The importance of interventions aimed at the Psychology student and their mental health, throughout their course, is noted.
