TIETZMANN, Daniela Cardoso et al. Prevalence of adherence to antiretroviral therapy and associated factors in adult patients of three urban centers of southern Brazil. Aletheia [online]. 2013, n.41, pp.154-163. ISSN 1413-0394.

Objective: To determine the prevalence and associated factors to adherence in antiretroviral therapy (HAART) of adult patients treated at the Division of Specialized Care for HIV/Aids (SAE) of three cities in RS. Methods: Cross-sectional multicenter study with data collected by a socio-demographic questionnaire with questions relative to the treatment regimen, self-report of medication taken and of minor psychiatric disorder (SRQ20), questionnaire Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), and assessment of the clinical status at the time of the interview. Results: A total of 453 adult patients with HIV/Aids and users of the SAE was interviewed and 79.2% were adherent to HAART. Men presented 37% more prevalence of adherence to HAART in relation to women and patients with low and moderate clinical status presented 18% times more prevalence of adherence to HAART in relation to patients with grave clinical status. Conclusions: Policies to prevent HIV/Aids must consider that the epidemy affects men and women unequally which should be understood to mobilize, in the patient, appropriate treatment.
