The use of psychoactive substances is a serious public health problem. The cognitivebehavioral therapy has several forms of treatment for chemical dependency, using various techniques, being the psychoeducation a valuable intervention technique in this area. This study aimed to survey about relevant aspects that occurred over sessions of psychoeducation in a therapeutic community. From the reports that were made each session were recorded the most important aspects to be described in this study. It can be found that the experience was extremely rich for patients. By understanding the disease, as well as answering questions, patients felt themselves better understood which enabled a greater awareness, motivation and hope for the realization of an effective treatment and greater chance of success It has been pointed out the importance of group psychoeducation as a technique to engage patients in treatment as well as broaden the sense of mutual help among them.
