Abstract

DURIDAN, Aparecida; SANTOS, Daiane Ferreira dos  and  GATTI, Ana Lucia. Self-esteem and personal care in women aged between 60 and 75 years. Aletheia [online]. 2014, n.43-44, pp. 174-187. ISSN 1413-0394.

This study aimed to investigate possible relationships between body care and self-esteem in women between 60 and 75 years, through a cross-sectional study. 24 women participated in the survey, with an average age of 65 years and two months, residents in São Paulo, which were selected by convenience and answered a Characterization Questionnaire, Rosenberg´s Self-Esteem Scale and the Questionnaire of Personal Care. It was found that women had high self-esteem and low levels of personal care. Pearson´s correlation between self-esteem and personal care was not statistically significant. The social desirability may have influenced the results, as well as the suitability of the instrument for assessing personal care. Further studies with larger numbers of participants and review of the material used are suggested.
