Abstract

During the last century, empirical sciences and psychoanalysis did not develop approach, keeping the field far away of the hegemonic scientific knowledge. Currently, the psychoanalytic community is facing significant pressure to increase empirical research. The international literature reveals several lines of research theme, linked to results and process of treatment. Were listed the difficulties and advantages of realizing research. It’s emphasized the need for the researcher to have actual knowledge of the clinic and it’s method of work, becoming na instrument “calibrated” to seize the conscious and unconscious mental processes. It is argued that empirical research on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis is one of the aspects of practical application of theoretical constructs developed in it’s metapsychology. Thus, it may mainly contribute expanding the knowledge that what works, for what works and how this type of treatment works.
