Abstract

SILVA, Francislaine da  and  RODRIGUES, Olga Maria Piazentin Rolim. Assessment of the social skills repertory of children with cleft lip and palate. Aletheia [online]. 2014, n.45, pp. 24-41. ISSN 1413-0394.

The current study assessed the social skills repertoire of 60 children with cleft lip and palate who answered the SMHSC Del Prette relating it to sociodemographic data, difficulties at school, behavior problems, and presence/absence of mockery, obtained from interviews with the parents. It was verified the presence of mockery against the children who study at public school who have transforamen fissure. The results of the SMHSC showed the presence of internalizing behaviors among the girls, and externalizing behavior among the boys. Comparative analysis between the variables collected with the parents and the results obtained in the SMHSC pointed to significant differences regarding the gender, with a higher frequency of passive skills among the girls, coherent to the difficulty in demonstrating the skill. The data obtained are suggestive for preventive interactions in children with orofacial fissure for either internalizing or externalizing behaviors reduce the opportunity for adequate interactions with their peers, hence for social development.
