Faced with the increase in the number of Brazilians who experience the process of transition from work to retirement and the biopsychosocial risks that retirement changes can produce, this article aims to investigate the conception of the public education workers from the State of the Rio Grande do Norte (RN) about the retirement, as well as their expectations with the proximity of this new phase in life. This study was developed with twenty public education professionals of the RN in a qualitative approach, using a socio-professional questionnaire and semi structered interview. The data were analyzed according to content analysis and classified in thematic units of senses. The results show that there is an opposition of expectations with the arrival of the retirement and the scenario of the work of these subjects would influence directly in these expectations. It was observed that the right to preparation is just one of the social labor rights that have been omitted.
