Episodes of maltreatment in childhood and adolescence are considered a public health problem and the consequences pervade emotional damage, cognitive and social these individuals. This study aimed to investigate sociodemographic, family and social characteristics of children and adolescents who have gone through a situation of abuse. The sample 282 is comprises by participants between six and 17 years of age. Among the main results, children and adolescents who have suffered some kind of abuse are mostly female, have between eight and 12 years, are children of divorced parents with high school education, belong to the middle class, have difficulty learning and most were the result of an unplanned pregnancy. From this study, it can be concluded that maltreatment causes significant harm to their victims, so the importance of identifying characteristics of this population so that one can think of prevention, treatment and risk factors.
