MASSENA, Patricia e FRASSETTO, Silvana Soriano. Psychological aspects associated to temporomandibular dysfunction: a systematic review of the literature. Aletheia [online]. 2015, n.47-48, pp. 169-182. ISSN 1413-0394.
Temporomandibular dysfunction is configured as a syndrome that affects the orofacial region causing injury to the quality of life. Currently, it is explained by the multifactorial etiologic model with various determinants. Although there is a consensus on multifactorial, there is little agreement about the importance of etiologic factors involved, and it is not known to what extent these factors can be considered predisposing, precipitating, or perpetuating. Thus, this study aimed to investigate, through a systematic review of literature, psychological aspects which are most often associated with temporomandibular dysfunction. Items with dates between 2000 and 2015 were surveyed in national databases SciELO, LILACS and BBO. 21 articles were selected. The results indicated depression, stress, anxiety and personality characteristics as psychological aspects more associated with temporomandibular dysfunction.
