Abstract

SALZTRAGER, Ricardo. Death, life and the mass phenomena. Aletheia [online]. 2016, vol.49, n.2, pp. 8-19. ISSN 1413-0394.

The purpose of the paper is to analyze the various contemporary mass phenomena aimed to questioning the view that only highlights the role of Eros (life) in the formation of social links. This view, represented by the work "The time of the tribes" from Maffesoli, leads to the conclusion that these masses, there is the construction of harmonious links between similars that join each other for empathy and fellowship's ideals. To effectuate such questioning, we turn to some writings of Freud highlighting that behind all social links, there is a conflict between Eros and Thanatos (death) and also some Benjamin's writtings that value the role of the death in the formation of social links. Thus death will be read as a destructive, liberating and creative force, that breaks everything is made so that something new can emerge.

Keywords : Creation; Death; Masses.
