This study was carried out to characterize the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized in the adult ICU, between January 2016 to January 2017. This is a documentary study, retrospective, exploratory with a quantitative approach. In amount of the 975 patients admitted, the majority were male gender in the Clinical ICU, 53.7%, and the Surgical ICU, 59.1%, and the general age of the sample surveyed remained above 60 years, and the most frequent comorbidity was Arterial Hypertension Systemic, the origin of the patients was 32.2% of the surgical block, as cause of hospitalization, occurred a divergence among ICUs, In the Clinical ICU, 30.6% of patients were hospitalized for sepsis, and in the Surgical ICU, 31.2% was hospitalized for Acute myocardial infarction. This study provided a knowledgement of the epidemiological profile for adult in the ICU, in order to provide better behavior, protocol implementation and review of the work process for the institution studied.
