Abstract

The constant changes that are taking place in the world and the current pressures are directly influencing the people’s lives, triggering different negative emotions, specially the anxiety. However, the anxiety is a part of the biological inheritance of the people, being a normal and common response in everyone’s lives even being important to the survival and adaptation of the human being. However, this normal reaction to certain situations evolved to a mental disease that are constantly affecting the individuals causing psychic suffering and functional losses to their personal and professional lives. This article deals with a review of the literature on the normal and pathological characteristics of anxiety, as well as the main techniques used in the intervention process. Cognitive-behavioral therapy has evolved its intervention techniques for the treatment of anxiety as well as presents effectiveness in treatment.
