Abstract

ARAGAO, Ailton de Souza et al. Health promotion of school child and the identification of social determinants: Experience report. Aletheia [online]. 2019, vol.52, n.1, pp. 189-199. ISSN 1413-0394.

This study aims to describe and discuss health promotion activities accomplished with schoolchildren aged between eight and ten years of a public school in a Minas Gerais municipality. The practices were done by students of Occupational Therapy, Physical Education and Nutrition courses from February 2017 to July 2018, three times a week. They consisted of ludic strategies and the use of light technologies capable of fostering children's expression and encouraging the investigation of the social determinants of health (SDH) that permeated their communities and lifestyles. Among the SDHs, the following stand out: diversity of family configurations, wide proximal and informal community network; underemployment, illiteracy, discontinuous access to public services, domestic violence, distancing from school, and inadequate feeding. In this scenario, promoting the health of schoolchildren demands broad institutional commitment, involvement of families and raising children's awareness for self-care.
