SANCHEZ, Lívia Fração  y  SERRALTA, Fernanda Barcellos. Countertransference: origin, historical evolution of the construct and clinical applicability. Aletheia [online]. 2019, vol.52, n.2, pp. 147-156. ISSN 1413-0394.

The countertransference (CT) is perhaps one of the most controversial in the psychoanalytic technique. From an obstacle to treatment to an important tool for the understanding of the patients the CT is being currently considered by many authors as an important tool of the treatment. The present study provides a brief theoretical review of the origin, evolution of the concept and clinical applicability of CT. In order to do so, a narrative review of the literature on this topic was done with consultation of classic authors as well as empirical studies on the subject. In conclusion, it is noticed that despite the evident evolution and metamorphosis of the CT over the years, there are still divergences, among authors, regarding its handling and clinical applicability and many questions regarding this subject are still open which demonstrates the need for further studies on this topic in order to fill these gaps.
