Abstract

Childbirth and birth have undergone important changes over time, have become transformative events in the lives of women and babies. The objective was to identify the number of deliveries by caesarean section and normal delivery, to trace the profile of women-mothers, as well as to know the birth conditions of babies, mothers living in the city of Canoas / RS, in 2017. a descriptive, comparative study with a quantitative approach. A total of 3,143 Live Birth Statements (DNV) of the year 2017 were analyzed. Of these, 1,227 (39.1%) were Caesarean deliveries and 1,916 (60.9%) vaginal deliveries. There was a predominance of women between 19 and 30 years old, white, single and with complete high school in both types of deliveries. Knowledge of the characteristics of a population is of fundamental importance to plan and implement effective strategies to improve the health conditions of the target population.
