ABSTRACT The media facilitate learning and provide opportunities for the expression of students' Social Skills. This study aims to characterize the use of Information and Communication Technologies and Social Skills of 456 students from private schools in southern Brazil. This is a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study. A questionnaire on sociodemographic data, a Questionnaire on the Use of Information and Communication Technologies and an Inventory of Social Skills for Adolescents Del-Prette were used. Cell phones/smartphones and social networks were the main technologies used. There is a higher frequency in Social Skills of Civility and Social Resourcefulness and lower frequencies in Empathy, Self-Control, Assertiveness and Affective Approach. In addition to high difficulty in issuing Empathy, Self-Control and Assertiveness. Clinical studies are suggested to develop a greater repertoire of social skills in this population for the purpose of preventing problematic behaviors related to low levels of social skills and high use of media.
