LEPPICH, Carolina Rocha; NUNES, Demétrius Paiva  e  SOUZA, Fernanda Pasquoto de. Depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms and quality of life in health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aletheia [online]. 2022, vol.55, n.1, pp. 105-132. ISSN 1413-0394.  http://dx.doi.org/10.29327/226091.55.1-6.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the relationship between quality of life and the presence of depressive and anxiety symptoms in health professionals who are working with patients infected by COVID-19 in a hospital in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. Seventy-one participants (84.5% women), with a mean age of 30 years, answered the socio demographic questionnaire, the Beck Depression Inventory II, the Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Quality of Life Scale "WHOQOL-bref". There were significantly higher scores for depression (64.8%) than for anxiety (50.7%) among the professionals sampled. It is identified through research that, the higher the anxiety and depression scores, the lower the quality of life scores. In view of the results, significant associations were observed in relation to depressive and anxious symptoms and quality of life. It was concluded that it is of great importance to address those issues, since the damage to the mental health of these professionals must be considered, especially in times of a pandemic.
