The objective of this study has been to verify the frequency of the episodes of Joint Attention in a free play situation, in relation to the gender of the child, looking at the type of verbalizations utilizated by the mothers to mantain or redirect the attention of the child in context. Individual children characteristics such as gender were pointed as responsible for variation in the interaction style. Participated in this study sixteen motherschild dyads equally distribuited in terms of gender. The dyads were recorded in natural environment for 20 minutes, in a free play situation. The frequences of Joint Attention episodies has been separated and quantificated using the VCR’s own counter. Moreover, it was verified that there isn’t significant difference in the episodies of the Joint Attention between dyads mothersboys and mothersgirls.
