Abstract

ANDRIOLA, Wagner Bandeira. The use of computers on psychological assessment: an investigation of its influence about individual performance on a numeric reasoning test (RN). Interações [online]. 2003, vol.8, n.15, pp. 105-124. ISSN 1413-2907.

The use of computerized tests by psychologists demands a previous analysis of their metric characteristics, as well as that of the performance of the individual being tested. This study investigated the influence of a computerized Test of Numeric Reasoning (RN) concerning the individual performance of high school students. The sample was composed of 143 high school students randomly divided into two groups: a control (paper-pencil format) and an experimental (computerized format). The results indicated statistically significant differences between the performance of the subjects of the groups regarding the gender and age variables. The results also indicate the necessity of elaborating different norms for both formats of the RN Test (paper-pencil versus computerized), taking into consideration the above mentioned variables.

Keywords : Psychometry; Computerized psychological test; Psychological assessment; Numeric reasoning.
