Abstract

The article addresses prevalent models of understanding insanity taking into consideration Basaglia’s thought. It highlights the historic importance of Basaglia’s work on institutions that shelter mental patients. It also points to the limits of this model, particularly regarding the definition of subjectivity. Finally, it looks for possible connections between a model that considers subjectivity and an exclusively socializing model.
