This paper analyzes two gay and lesbian groups of collective action located in Belo Horizonte (state of Minas Gerais, Brazil) through a social psychology approach. It explores the constitution of collective identity and political action in the field of social participation. In doing so, this article challenges some theories which endeavor to understand social movements.
