Abstract

FONTENELLE, Isleide Arruda. The work of the illusion: production, consumption and subjectiviti in contemporary society. Interações [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.19, pp. 63-86. ISSN 1413-2907.

This article addresses contemporary aspects of labor and consumption through the lens of social psychology. Following what I call"new social organization of illusion", this paper seeks to understand the corresponding new organization of production and the subjective implications of this new social-production configuration. Through the concept of fetishism (used both in the social and psychoanalytic thought), I discuss the shift from"labor-value" to"experience-value" that takes place in new business configurations which market"experiences" instead of products. This shift also drastically changes"fetish" as a theoretical concept and the subjective ways of dealing with the issue.

Keywords : Consumption; Production; Image; Experience; Fetishism.
