The acceptance and social rejection has been related to different social skills but their relationship with nonverbal social behavior has not been investigated. The objective of this study was to analyze the predictive power of social skills assessed by self report and nonverbal social behavior peer-reviewed in a group while justifying the acceptance and rejection in college students to hang with and study. The participants were 128 college students aged 18 to 51 years. We used the Social Skills Inventory and sociometric protocol including the rationale of the choices from the assessment of non-verbal behavior of the group. Among the results, the non-verbal behavior tends to explain more variability of social acceptance and rejection compared to self report measures; there were differences in behaviors that cause acceptance and minimize rejection; there were differences by series of elements that explain the acceptance and social rejection.

Palavras-chave : sociometry; nonverbal behavior; social behavior.
