Abstract

CHARIGLIONE, Isabelle Patriciá Freitas Soares; JANCZURA, Gerson Américo  and  BELLEVILLE, Sylvie. Cognitive interventions to improve memory in healthy older adults: the use of Canadian (MEMO) and Brazilian (Stimullus) approaches. Estud. psicol. (Natal) [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.1, pp. 2-13. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a memory training (MEMO) and a memory stimulation (Stimullus) procedure in older adults with normal cognitive aging. The study was conducted with 44 participants of both sexes, healthy and over 60 years old, using a randomized control trial design with two groups receiving cognitive interventions and one control group with no intervention, with pre and post-intervention assessments. Results indicated that MEMO interventions produce more cognitive gains than the Stimullus intervention procedure. Visual memory and Face-Name Association tests presented significant differences between groups, but Free Recall and Image Recognition tests were insensitive to the interventions.

Keywords : older adults; memory; cognitive intervention; cognitive stimulation; cognitive training.
