Abstract
BAERE, Felipe de and ZANELLO, Valeska. The gender in suicidal behavior: An epidemiological reading of data from the Federal District. Estud. psicol. (Natal) [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.2, pp. 168-178. ISSN 1413-294X. http://dx.doi.org/10.22491/1678-4669.20180017.
The present study aimed to analyze suicidal behavior based on epidemiological data, already existing and produced, involving deaths and attempts at self-extermination in the Federal District of Brazil. These data were examined from the gender perspective, through the differences between men and women, sexual orientation and gender identity. Differences were observed between the frequency of deaths and suicide attempts between men and women, as well as gender values present in socio-demographic aspects, such as age, race / color; schooling, marital status, among other elements present in the records. As a result of the lack of evidence in the death registers and the non-completion of certain fields in the self-extermination notification form, it was not possible to examine data on sexual orientation and gender identity, which indicates neglect of mental health of the LGBT population.
