CALEGARE, Marcelo; LOPES, Kássia Pereira  y  ZACARIAS, Elisa Ferrari Justulin. The Sense of Belonging of indigenous and non-indigenous dwellers in a Multiethnic Community of Manaus-AM. Estud. psicol. (Natal) [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.3, pp. 333-343. ISSN 1413-294X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22491/1678-4669.20210031.

We aim to present and discuss how the residents of a multiethnic community in Manaus-AM, resulting from the occupation of a Permanent Preservation Area since 2013, recognize and feel belonging to the community or not. Through qualitative research, we conducted community visits over one year and performed thirteen semi-structured interviews with key participants, analyzed by content analysis. Despite the ethnic factor, prejudice, and discrimination against indigenous people and residents of the occupied neighborhood, we have verified that there is a sense of belonging among all, related on the one hand to the appropriation, attachment, and identification with the place. On the other, to collective memory, participation, and socio-political organization in favor of community struggles. The sense of belonging generates affective bonds, identification, appreciation, and preservation of the community environment, providing group cohesion and community empowerment.

Palabras clave : environmental psychology; community psychology; indigenous; sense of belonging; community.
