This article aims to discuss the category of subjectivity in its double modern configuration: as an enlarged, recognized and deepened experience and as a central epistemological question to the definition of the modern science itself. Both aspects, in their intersection and development, will be fundamental to the historical construction of Psychology. The text runs through some factors related to this double category configuration derived from the capitalism development; it points to how this double feature is present in the main psychological theories with the subjectivity/objectivity contradiction not resolved, and also points out the critical elements about the traditional theories which may lead to solution of this impasse. Finally, some current aspects of this question are pointed out, amidst the post-modernity debate in which some frames for modernity implied in this double configuration are reviewed, leading to a new discussion of the notions of individual, subject and subjectivity.
