The WAIS-III constitutes the Wechsler Scales of Intelligence for adults latest edition published in the United States of America, in 1997. The scale mentioned above introduces important changes concerned with the 1981 previous edition. The present article characterizes the instrument above and presents the partial results of the research which has been fulfilled to adapt and legalize the WAIS-III to be used in the Brazilian context. So far, the translation and the theoretical analysis of the items were carried out and its objective is to elaborate a pilot version of the instrument which will be applied to a sample of individuais who live in Belo Horizonte
