Abstract

ANDERY, Maria Amália; MICHELETTO, Nilza  and  SERIO, Tereza Maria. Historical research in behavior analysis. Temas psicol. [online]. 2000, vol.8, n.2, pp. 137-142. ISSN 1413-389X.

The historical and conceptual development of Behavior Analysis became turned into an important issue. Various behavior analysts have been dealing with it. Authors such as Day (1980), Smith (1986), Coleman (1981, 1984, 1985, 1987), among many others, have been discussing it under various perspectives, emphasizing its methodological, philosophical and conceptual aspects. Historical researches have been focused on the work of scholars, through analysis of journals on Behavior Analysis, highlighting the development of basic and applied research. This paper has argued that whenever taking his/her discipline development, as his/her focus of interest, the behavior analyst must take into account, as he ought to do with others, his/her knowledge of the behavior laws and of the need to analyze the impact on the individual, of contingencies and meta-contingencies, which give rise to the phenomenon under study.

Keywords : behavior analysis; historical research; to know; scientific knowledge.
