This paper has presented the reasons for creating a Psychology & Religion Workgroup in Anpepp (National Association for Research and Graduation in Psychology). Among these reasons stands out some concern with the need of reinstating an important area of human behavior in the field of scientific Psychology. Academic activities that preceded the formal institution of the workgroup are presented and the aims of the group are stated as the study of religious experience, the training of researchers and the communication of the studies. Then the paper mentioned several activities of the Group from 1998 to 2000, such as publication of scientific papers, both organization and participation in national and international scientific events, and finally announced some perspectives for the Group development, especially the inclusion of new members and the enhancement of a program for international exchange.
