Abstract

GUERRELHAS, Fabiana Ferreira  and  SILVARES, Edwiges Ferreira de Mattos. Recreational groups: a proposal for reduction of evasion rate at an university center of clinicai psychology. Temas psicol. [online]. 2000, vol.8, n.3, pp. 313-321. ISSN 1413-389X.

A new type of psychological attendance was developed at one clinicai psychology university center in São Paulo. It aimed at testing the hypothesis that it would reduce the rate of clients dropout of the institutional clinicai services waiting list. Twenty-four children (6 to 13 y ears old) enrolled in the university psychological center services and recorded on the waiting list for psychological services were divided in two groups: experimental (children that received the new type of attendance) and control (children waiting for a clinicai attendance at home). The proposal was rather recreational than therapeutic and provided an opportunity for the first year undergraduate students of Psychology to be trained. Then, children enrolled in the experimental group carne every week to play in the university while those of the control group remained at home. Indexes of dropping out from the institutional list indicate that children of the experimental group have evaded significantly less than children of the control group and that the proposal is effective to lower the high evasion rate at university psychological centers
