SOUZA, Ruth Daisy Capistrano de; ASSIS, Grauben José Alves de  e  MAGALHAES, Priscila Giselli Silva. Numerical equivalence in deaf children. Temas psicol. [online]. 2005, vol.13, n.2, pp. 113-127. ISSN 1413-389X.

The Study 1 aimed to evaluate the effects of a teaching procedure by overlapping two-stimuli and verify the emergence of non-directly taught sequences. Took part in this study five deaf children. The participants should respond to overlapping two-stimuli sequences. If the sequence was correct an animated figure appeared in the computer screen parallel, signs in the Brazilian Sign Language were presented by the researcher. If the sequence was different, the screen got dark for 3s and the same stimuli configuration was presented. Tests of transitivity and connectivity were applied. In Study 2, three other deaf children were exposed to the same procedure, as well as generalization tests and retests. The participants responded readily to the tests and retests. The outcomes confirmed the efficiency of teaching procedure by overlapping two-stimuli, making clear that equivalency can occur outside the matching-to-sample parameters. It’s suggested to expand the investigation under contextual and conditional control.
