The present essay examines the policies context for Brazilian higher education when national guidelines for curricula were developed and compares it to the subsequent political context of internationalization of education. Basic features of the Bologna Process and of the European curriculum for psychology are examined here, as well as the implications of these facts for the development of guidelines for the teaching of psychology in the United States, and actions concerning the mobility of students and professionals. The paper concludes with an analysis of the insertion of psychology education in Brazil in the current scenario of internationalization of higher education.
