The year of 2008 was the year of the 30^th anniversary of the implementation of the Undergraduate Program in Psychology at Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), which was a landmark in the history of psychology in Santa Catarina State, as it was the first undergraduate major in this area created in the State, changing the profile of this career in the region. The purpose of this research was to investigate the history of the implementation of the Department of Psychology and its Undergraduate Program, as well as the relation this event had with the historical moment the University was going through and with the socio-economic development of Santa Catarina State, focusing on the context of the consolidation of this career in the region. Thus, locate the history of psychology in Santa Catarina before the creation of Psychology Course UFSC, just so you can understand the importance of this historical event in the history of science and profession in the State. Then it describes as was the creation of the Department of Psychology at UFSC, and the paths to the creation of this course. Finally, we discuss the role of this in today's scenario in psychology in Santa Catarina and Brazil.
