Abstract

LA TAILLE, Yves de. Morality and violence: legitimating acts of violence in question. Temas psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.2, pp. 329-341. ISSN 1413-389X.

This article aims at evaluating the contributions of moral psychology to the study of violence. We first establish the relationship between morality, ethics and violence. Next, we present the theoretical model adopted, which bears the name of 'construction of ethic personality'. We continue by carrying out a review of psychological theories devoted to explain the phenomenon of violence. Finally, we support the hypothesis that violence may result from lack of moral boundaries to inhibit it, or from the identity construction of the subject for which violence is a social value.

Keywords : Morality; Ethics; Violence; Moral psychology.
