This article describes and discusses two tragic scenes that took place in Rio de Janeiro, in October 2009: the fire that destroyed much of the collection by the Rio's plastic artist Helio Oiticica and the murder Evandro John Doe, who coordinated social projects promoted by the group AfroReggae. Each one of this episodes, unfolds its own scenary of hopelessness. We aim to respond to these events dialoguing with the reflection proposed by Pierre Naville in his book "Revolution and the intellectuals" which presents the legendary slogan "We must organize pessimism." Pierre Naville and Walter Benjamin make this principle a critical and essential tool.
