Abstract

ALMEIDA, João Henrique de  and  HAYDU, Verônica Bender. Reorganization of stimulus equivalence classes: a critical review of experimental studies. Temas psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.2, pp. 449-462. ISSN 1413-389X.

Stimulus equivalence class may be defined as a set of stimuli that are interchangeable or substitutable in certain contexts and show the proprieties of reflexivity, symmetry and transitivity. Studies about the stimulus equivalence paradigm have proven great reach in its application to the clinical and educational context, but investigations involving reorganization of equivalence classes had shown controversial results. This study reviewed studies that had investigated relevant variables to the demonstration of equivalence classes' reorganization, in order to clarify the question of whether or not the classes are capable of reorganization when the contingency are rearranged. Some theoretical and applied implications of the results are discussed and some research questions for future studies are suggested.

Keywords : Stimulus equivalence; Equivalence relations; Reorganization of stimulus equivalence classes.
