Abstract

COSTA, Aline Alberti Veronez da  and  FIORONI, Luciana Nogueira. Assessment of a Behavioral Therapeutic Group as a strategy to treat depressive patients. Temas psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.2, pp. 527-539. ISSN 1413-389X.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether specific behavioral procedures/techniques applied to a therapeutic group have an effect on the scores of Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and to offer an explanation for the etiology of depression from a behavioral perspective, as proposed by Dougher and Hackbert (1994). The BDI was applied to four depressive female patients enrolled in a Family Health Unit before and after eight sessions of group therapy. We observed lower scores for all four patients after the sessions when compared to the first administration of the inventory. Self-reported information on patients' own life histories and current contingencies also confirmed the findings of Dougher and Hackbert on the causes and consequences of depressive behavior.
