ALMEIDA, Fabrício Fernandes; COSTA JUNIOR, Áderson Luiz; DOCA, Fernanda do Nascimento Pereira  e  TURRA, Virgínia. Pain experience and psychosocial variables: the state of the art in Brazil. Temas psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.2, pp. 367-376. ISSN 1413-389X.

Pain is defined as an unpleasant sensorial and emotional experience, associated to a real or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage. In this context, not only the physical and chemical components involved are considered, but also the subjective and psychological aspects are crucial to the understanding of pain complaints. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify Brazilian psychological studies about pain and their variables. Through Doca's (2009) standardized method, that makes a priority of the journals evaluated by CAPES that were qualified as QUALIS A. Fourteen articles, provided by 32 possible Brazilian journals were subjected to analysis, as well as articles published in the Dor Journal. It was observed that the Brazilian psychology has yet to fill in its space in this field and, in disagreement to the need suggested by the literature of the field, the articles noted in this article there is a low absolute number of psychosocial variables relevant to the study in the field of pain.
