RESENDE, Briseida Dogo. Social influence in problem solving: a review from comparative psychology. Temas psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.2, pp. 481-490. ISSN 1413-389X.

Problem solving and social learning are recurrent themes in Psychology, and are treated under different theoretical perspectives. In this paper, this issue is reviewed emphasizing Perception/Action perspective. We discuss aspects related to social influence on learning, showing the contributions from Theory of the Mind, Ethology, and from the discovery of mirror neurons to the study of social learning. We also present an example of the application of Perception/Action perspective on the study of the ontogeny of a motor behavior in comparative research. We conclude that the combination of recent discoveries in the different areas of knowledge presented here might bring strong contributions to the understanding of social influence in problem solving.

Palavras-chave : Learning; Social influence; Perception/Action; Problem solving; Comparative psychology.
