Abstract

PEREIRA, Dora  and  ALARCAO, Madalena. Parenting assessment in child protection. Temas psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.2, pp. 499-513. ISSN 1413-389X.

Parenting assessment is a main task in child protection field. Legal decisions and psychosocial interventions will depend on it. In Portugal we still don't have guiding lines; each service and each worker chooses the ones they think more adequate. From 11 parenting assessment models' analysis, we conclude that there are 3 major areas assessed- child, parents, context - and that it tend to be generalized the inclusion of guiding lines related to parental capacities as considering worker's emotional involvement in assessment process. These reference points and "minimaly adequate parenting" are pointed out as future research lines in our country.

Keywords : Parenting skills; Parenting capacity; Minimally adequate parenting; Assessment; Child protection.
