Abstract

BIASUS, Felipe; DEMANTOVA, Aline  and  CAMARGO, Brigido Vizeu. Social representations of aging and sexuality for people over 50 years. Temas psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.19, n.1, pp. 319-336. ISSN 1413-389X.

The aim of this study was to describe the social representations of aging and sexuality in people over 50 years and to check if they establish relations between these two objects. 80 people participated in this study, 40 men and 40 women living in Florianópolis-SC and Erechim-SC, aged between 50 and 70 years. Data were collected through indirect observation employing episodic interview techniques associated with non-directive procedures, as well as a questionnaire containing questions about the sexual behavior of participants and personal characterization items. For the analysis of characterization data was used SPSS and for textual data the software Alceste. The results indicated that participants perceive the social representations of the objects surveyed in different ways, but we can affirm that sexuality is an important factor in aging, influencing the behaviors of this age group. It was verified that there is a different understanding of sexuality, considering the gender variable. This work may be useful in developing campaigns for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases for this age group
