The sexual abuse disclosure can ensure legal and psychosocial interventions for victims, offenders and families. This study aimed to characterize the disclosure, denial and recantation of sexual abuse by thirty-one records of reported cases of sexual abuse against children and adolescents treated at a specialized service in the city of Belém-Pará. The following factors were analyzed: age and sex (victims / offenders), the relationship between victims and offenders (intrafamilial / extrafamilial), the individual who made the notification. The results indicate the predominance of victims between eight and 11 years old, female, and offenders between 14 and 32 years, male. There was a higher occurrence of intrafamilial sexual abuse. The biological mother made the notifications in most cases (n = 14). Sexual abuse was revealed by the victims in 87% of cases, and non-disclosure involved intrafamilial abuse. The denial prevalent among boys and children from five to seven years. The only two cases of retraction occurred in the sample of boys. The disclosure, denial and retraction should be used as important indicators in evaluating and understanding of child sexual abuse cases.

Keywords : Sexual abuse; disclosure; denial; recantation.
