Abstract

MARTURANO, Edna Maria; SILVARES, Edwiges Ferreira de Mattos  and  OLIVEIRA, Margareth da Silva. University-based psychological centers: where they fit in the knowledge exchange process. Temas psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.2, pp. 457-470. ISSN 1413-389X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.9788/TP2014.2-15.

The university-affiliated psychological centers have been operating in Brazil since the 60s, assisting in the training of psychologists while offering possibilities for the development of teaching, research, and community services. The main purpose of this paper is to highlight the power of scientific research for the improvement of care practices and professional training in university-based centers. Aiming to support the discussion on the triple role of psychology training centers, we analyze their role in the transposition of scientific knowledge for professional practices that are sensitive to community demands. On the basis of a preventive intervention research cycle model, research results generated in three universityaffiliated psychological clinics are detailed, in order to assess their contribution for professional training and practice. The analyses emphasize the feedback process between instances of generation and application of knowledge. The paper ends with a reflection on the importance of strengthening research in university-based training settings as a way to improve the education of psychologists and the services provided to the community.
