WOTTRICH, Shana Hastenpflug  e  ARPINI, Dorian Mônica. Care required throughout childhood: a study with mothers who collect recyclable material. Temas psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.2, pp. 471-482. ISSN 1413-389X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.9788/TP2014.2-16.

The parental roles regarding contributions to the development of their children are matters to be analyzed in the light of social and historical contexts, considering the relationships built in particular family environments. In this perspective, this research aimed to understand the meanings about care required in childhood attributed by mothers of popular groups. Eight semi-structured interviews were carried out with women who were mothers of children aged 0-6 years old and who worked collecting and selecting recyclable material. Data were analyzed through content analysis. Mothers reported the relevance of establishing a close relationship with their children. Ambivalent attitudes related to strategies used for the education of the children were observed, as well as the identification of a support network that provides support concerning care towards the children. Education practices are guided by the concern of the mothers about putting forward education values and practices embedded in the ethical values of what is considered right/honest and, therefore, expected for the children. The results of this study may subsidize reflections in the direction of creating intervention proposals for professionals whose work relates to child health care, in the sense of health promotion.
