HAUER, Mariane y GUIMARAES, Rafael Siqueira de. Mothers, children and homossexuality: acceptance narratives. Temas psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.23, n.3, pp. 649-662. ISSN 1413-389X. http://dx.doi.org/10.9788/TP2015.3-10.
Despite increased social visibility, homosexuality is still seen as a taboo, a subject veiled mainly within the family. Due to the society heteronormative organization, the possibility of having a son or daughter gay is not even thought of, and when faced with this situation, the fathers and mothers begin a journey of several clashes between their views and the children's love. The demarcation of gender roles, the idea of being a man or woman, the "correct" way to express sexuality, future plans made around a probable heterosexual marriage: all of this is revised, rethought, deconstructed and reconstructed. Given these difficulties, this paper provides the outlines of the process of acceptance faced by mothers of homosexuals children. The research was conducted through interviews with three mothers, from the perspective of narrative analysis. It was felt that the process of acceptance of the interviewees has both commonalities as natural, highlighting issues concerning homosexuality causes attributed to the children, living with the stigma and overcome prejudice.
