Abstract

ROMAO-DIAS, Daniela  and  NICOLACI-DA-COSTA, Ana Maria. Playing and virtual reality. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.26, pp. 85-101. ISSN 1413-6295.

Almost two decades after the popularization of commercial Internet in Brazil, its harmful use continues to be debated. Contrary to this trend, the present paper aims at highlighting something that receives little attention in the context of psychology and psychoanalysis: the positive effects of the Internet. D. W. Winnicott's concepts of potential space and play are articulated to the virtual space created by the Internet. Observations of daily life, bibliographical references and an investigation carried out with Brazilian Net users support our view that, at least for some, the Internet can play the role of potential space and also act as a place for play.

Keywords : Potencial space; playing; Internet; subjectivity.
