VILLELA, Angela Bezerra. Psychoanalysis' relevance: HIV listening through drive. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2013, vol.35, n.29, pp. 77-87. ISSN 1413-6295.

The main objective of this paper is to identify one of the most recurring criticisms about psychoanalysis and to try to contest it. One specific point, which is referred as a weakness in Freudian theory, sticks to the fact that the listening through the unconscious - one of the main pillars of the theory - would not meet certain urgent demands, typical of the contemporary world, where the acceleration of time is patent. Since speed is one of the prominent benchmarks of those times, the slowness required by the psychoanalytical practice would thus hinder its effectiveness. This kind of claim falls flat against the concept of drive, which subverts completely that equivocal perspective on Freud's legacy.

Palavras-chave : death; segregation; urgency; technique.
